Home Nations League Cup
What are people's thoughts on a cup competition (aka, a British league Cup) between football clubs of the 5 home nations to replace the national league cups. I'm struggling to see the negatives. Fans of all 5 countries would love the prospect of say, the scottish Old Firm up against the teams of the EPL and due to the predominance of European cup football, the league cups in Scotland and England at least are now fairly redundant competitions.
The excuses against it are one: that fans would have to travel too far, and two: how would Europa League competition qualification be worked out. Well high travel costs shouldn't be an excuse as Britain and Ireland aren't big Islands and it isn't a problem in the Europa league where a club may have to travel to say Ukraine in order to play. As for how Europa league qualification, it would be that the team in each respective nation that got the furthest in the competition would be awarded their nation's europa qualification spot that would otherwise be available in their present league cup competition.
I think that the powers that be are just afraid of the unknown and a home nations cup compo would liven up a season and otherwise stagnant football outside of the EPL.
