Ruhr Valley neighbors and rivals Schalke and Borussia Dortmund shared a 1-1 draw in Gelsenkirchen on Fri. , a result that benefited neither side in their tries to climb up from their mid-table positions in the Bundesliga.
Schalke went ahead in the 20 th minute when Kevin Kuranyi scored his 2nd goal in consecutive games with an impressive volley. Strike partner Halil Altintop supplied the cross and Kuranyi hit a wonderful bicycle-style strike on the volley which gave Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller no chance.
However, the visitors levelled with just 9 mins later when Egyptian Mohamed Zidan, on as a second-half substitute, fired the ball past Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer after a neat one-two with Nelson Valdez. The result leaves Dortmund in eighth and Schalke ninth in the table before the remainder of the weekend's Bundesliga program.
